Tamil Nadu NEET PG state counselling
The DME Selection Committee fills Tamil Nadu's state-quota PG seats from a state rank list built on NEET PG marks. The most common mistake is on documents: anything not uploaded with the online application gets it rejected.
- ~1,259 government state-quota seats
- 25 government colleges
- Official documents, cited
Where 2026 counselling stands
No 2026 schedule published as of 1 October 2026. The latest PG MD/MS items on tnmedicalselection.net are refund-portal notices for the 2025-26 session, dated up to June 2026.
How many government seats the state fills
No state publishes this number, so here is how it is built. NMC’s register records the sanctioned PG intake of each government college; MCC’s results record how many of those seats went through the All India Quota. What is left is the state quota — what TN Selection Committee (DME) itself allots.

Who can apply
- Tamil Nadu natives can apply for government and government-quota seats under their community, wherever they did MBBS.
- Natives of other states who did MBBS, including internship, in Tamil Nadu are eligible for open-category seats only. Other candidates are not eligible for government-quota seats.
- Natives must upload a nativity certificate from the Tamil Nadu Revenue Department. Community claims also need a community certificate for one parent.
- The 2025 minimum for TN natives was the 50th percentile (General), 45th (General PwD) and 40th (reserved communities). NBEMS cut-offs were lowered in January 2026 and fresh applications were taken.
- The 2025-26 prospectus does not mention Tanvi Behl v. Shrey Goel (2025). Its nativity and Tamil Nadu MBBS conditions are as stated above.
| Seat type | How it works |
|---|---|
| State quota (government colleges) | 50% of recognised seats. The other 50% go to All India Quota through MCC. |
| In-service share of state quota (degree) | Half of the state-quota seats are only for in-service doctors in Tamil Nadu government institutions. The other half are open to both service and non-service candidates. |
| In-service share (PG diploma) | 50% of PG diploma seats are reserved for government medical officers with at least three years' service in hilly, remote, difficult or rural areas. |
| Government quota in self-financing colleges | The share is set by state policy, NMC regulations and court orders. Management, minority and NRI seats are counselled separately under their own prospectus. |
| PwD | 5% of seats in government institutions, allotted in a separate special-category round before general counselling. |
Reservation, service and fees
- Reservation
- Where a course has 8 or more seats: OC 31%, BC 30% (including 3.5% BC Muslim), MBC/DNC 20%, SC 18% (Arunthathiyars preferred within it), ST 1%. A 200-point roster covers 2 to 7 seats; single seats go on rank.
- In-service candidates
- TNPSC/MRB-selected medical officers and local-body doctors with two years' continuous service by 31 March 2025 qualify. They get up to 10% of their NEET PG marks per year of hilly, remote or rural service, capped at 30%.
- Service bond
- Non-service candidates in government colleges, AIQ included, must serve Tamil Nadu for 2 years within 3 years of finishing. Bond: Rs 40 lakh (degree) or Rs 20 lakh (diploma). In-service candidates bond to serve until superannuation.
- Fees
- Government colleges, 2025-26, per year: PG degree Rs 40,000 tuition plus Rs 10,000 special fee; PG diploma Rs 20,000 tuition. Government-quota seats in self-financing colleges pay fees set by the state's fee fixation committee.
How the process runs
- Apply online at tnmedicalselection.net and pay Rs 3,000 (Tamil Nadu SC, SCA and ST natives are exempt). Upload every required document with the application.
- Check the provisional rank list and eligibility lists; a grievance portal opens for corrections.
- For each round, register (Rs 1,000), pay the refundable security deposit (Rs 30,000 for government colleges, Rs 1 lakh for self-financing government-quota seats), then fill and lock choices.
- PwD special-category allotment runs before the general rounds. After that come Round 1, Round 2 (with upgrade), Round 3 (mop-up) and a stray round.
- Pay tuition online to download the provisional allotment order, then join the allotted college with original certificates by the deadline.

State quota closing ranks
Tamil Nadu publishes allotment lists showing each candidate's state rank, community, service status, marks and seat, but not the seat's category. Closing ranks per category cannot be read reliably from these lists, so we give none.
Tamil Nadu's government colleges, seat by seat
Each college’s sanctioned PG intake, the share the All India Quota took, and what that leaves the state. The last column is the most competitive All India Quota Open closing rank in the college — a measure of how sought-after it is nationally, not a state cutoff.
The hardest All India Quota seats in Tamil Nadu last year: MD Radiodiagnosis at STANLEY MEDICAL COLLEGE (305); MD Radiodiagnosis at MADRAS MEDICAL COLLEGE (307); MD General Medicine at MADRAS MEDICAL COLLEGE (799); MD General Medicine at Tirunelveli Medical College (913); MD Radiodiagnosis at MADURAI MEDICAL COLLEGE (1,014).

Rules are summarised from those documents in our own words; where a document did not settle a point, this page leaves it out rather than guessing.
